We are posting this
to notify you a plight of a poor Chepang who has continuously been suffering
(from enterocutaneous fistula we
guess) for about 4 years. Mr.
Jeet Bahadur Chepang, a resident of Kaule VDC ward no. 6 Chitwan had an operation at the
Medical College in Bharatpur after 5/6 days of severe stomach ache. Indeed, he had problem of appendicitis! We hope
you can measure the distance and hardship to go from Hugdi to Kaule!! He was
indebted at that time. God knows what causes?? Since then the contents leak
through to the skin. In the language of medical, it may be called abdominal fistulas
which refer to abnormal openings that allow the contents of the stomach or
bowels to leak.

We came to know about
this 2/3 months ago when we visited Kaule in course of the research process for
MA. We determined that we’d do what we could do to save his life. From BP
Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, we were assured that he would freely be
treated there. But the College of Medical Sciences at Bharatpur, which treated
the Chepang earlier, is suggested to be the best one to treat him. So, he is
brought to the COMS in Chitwan. He is now admitted at the hospital. Due to malnutrition,
he is under observation!! Very recently,
he is found to be suffering from tuberculosis! Whether operation to be done will
be confirmed within a week we evaluate. We could not meet Dr Nataraj!!! For the
moment, bed fees and some tests have been made free of charge. We have
deposited NRs 7,000 at the hospital pharmacy!! The in-charge first insisted to
sign an agreement letter made by the police officer stationed at the hospital
to ensure that we will pay the bill of medicines bought in credit!! However, we
were successful not to sign that sort of letter, and deposited the money.
We expect all of us do help HIM whatever we can
do. Somehow, the issue has been raised now. Some money that we have has also
been used. We
hope all of us will do what we can afford for this poor CHEPANG, who wants to
be alive and pay the debt!! We also expect Dr Nataraj will provide all the
services free of cost at the hospital including the charges of medicines.
